AboutBree Paulsen is a queer writer and artist living in Southern California that loves to draw monsters, historical fashion, and anything autumnal. She studied animation at Laguna College of Art of Design. She has illustrated children's books for Xist Publishing and created the webcomic Patrik the Vampire in 2013 (currently on hiatus).
Bree's bestselling middle grade graphic novel Garlic & the Vampire (2021) and its bestselling sequel Garlic & the Witch (2022) are both ALA picks for Best Graphic Novels for Children Reading Lists of their respective years. Next was her standalone middle grade fantasy The Firelight Apprentice (2024) which follows two sisters in a post-war magic world again which too was recognized by the ALA. She is currently working on her fourth graphic novel, Dearest Mina (projected 2027), a highly anticipated young adult adaptation of Dracula, which will be told from Mina's point of view. And her fifth graphic novel Bean has been announced with a projected release in 2029 with HarperCollins/Quilltree.
